Rangers Win, Bobcats Lose

Thursday, November 27, 2008

I was away doing the radio for the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Wednesday, so I can only go by my hockey expert son's report on the game. It was a nice 3-2 shoot-out victory by the Blueshirts. Markus Naslund's 2 goals, Ryan Malone's PP goal, and a late deflected goal by Tampa forced a scoreless OT. With goals by Naslund & Zherdev, combined with stellar goaltending by Henrik Lunqvist - the Rangers shut-out and shut-down the Lightning in the shoot-out. I really can't say enough about the King. He's been a saviour all year for the Rangers. Where would the team be without him? A very entertaining game... a couple of fights: Orr and Koci, even Zherdev and Stamkos?! These I have to see on youtube! Back in first, a good win on the road, we'll take it!

The Quinnipiac Bobcats took on the number 7 ranked Princeton Tigers in a ECAC conference game last night. The Bobcats, however, fell short 2-1. Bud Fisher stopped 39 of 41 shots in a great, but wasted effort as the Bobcats could only muster a goal by Brandon Wong. I have come to realize in college hockey that there is a fine line between a great team and a good team. The difference is ever minute. The Bobcats came out of the gates slowly in the first period, played even in the second, and really outplayed Princeton in the third. Unfortunately, they still came up with a tough loss. Over and out!

On a sad note, I received some bad news about a good friend of mine, Bobby Crocker, Jr... Who I had known since my Hartford days. He passed away on Monday and quite honestly this one hurts, big time. Bob and I had just got back in touch after a time period of almost 20 years. He visited my wife and I this past September in PA and our friendship was back like it was yesterday. On behalf of my family, and really everyone who has been around Bob, our heart is heavy for his wife Diane and Bob's family. I'll miss you "Crock", and I will never forget...

leatherneck: Leatherneck, Its a bitter sweet day for me. Thanksgiving, I turned 50 today, and one of my best friends has passed away.

I could only go by what my Hockey "Psycho" Son tells me. Basically said it was a very entertaining contest. Shoot-out, fights and lots of hitting? Good win on the road.

I have the NHL package, yes there are big time Homers in the broadcasting world. It's the one thing I try to stay away from when I do the Quinnipiac games on Radio.

I wish you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving as well.

Yes...part of the homers idiotic remark concerned Orr...Koci challanged Orr...just as the Lightning were assesed a penalty and remarked about how some people will jump others..but shy away from others...next shift...Orr challanged Koci to a fight...it was comical

leatherneck: Leatherneck, I got to see the fight on You Tube and I could see Orr just before the puck dropped look at Koci and rock'n roll from there. Decent fight.

Orr is not scared of anyone! and it surprises me to hear any announcer who covers the NHL that tries to say different. It shows me lack of prep when you scout a team as a broadcaster.

How about the 2 "Super Heavy's" Zherdev and Stamkos? Not a bad accounting of themselves. Although
I worry about the shields in fights. Not good for the hands.

Thanksgiving was great down in my new digs down in Florida...and you continue to throw the Rangers rule at me...ah Kotsy how I miss those Bruins v. Rangers debates we had in the radio booth last winter. Tell Boyle and Schweizer I said hi if you would.

chaggy: Chaggy, your Bruins look pretty good this year. I will say hello to Bill and Don for you.

Way to hot for this guy down there in FLA.

Happy birthday Chris...seems Prucha might be in the line up...I dont like how Renney is handling Fritsche and Prucha...send Prucha to Hartford..let him play..regain his confidence...no one will pick him up if he has to clear waivers..Fritsche is playing well and yeah..i dont like shields either...players with shields if getting involved in a fight must take their helmets off or be given a 2 min minor for unsportsman like conduct

leatherneck: Leatherneck, I absolutely agree with you about sending someone? anyone? to Hartford.

Too many bodies with the big club also keeps guys looking behind them in case they have bad game. Can't build confidence if your in and out of the lineup.

Shields are the worse thing when it comes to a fight. I've seen some badly damaged hands back in my day.

I can't imagine why you would fight a guy with one on? It doesn't make you a pussy, it makes you smart.

Kots---I'm so sorry to hear the sad news about Croc--I met him once and enjoyed talking to him and seeing the face that went along with the comments on the blog---I know there is a reason, that we don't understand when this happens--but it dosn't make it easy.--I feel foolish writing about the now,but I'm sure Croc would say O.K---The Tampa game was so good that when it was over even I was sweating!!They skated hard and quick--no standing--always moving--and physical---the only problem is that Tampa's physical is bigger and stronger so ours is hard to notice--Man were they big this Artyukin is like a Ford Bronco with skates--And this Koci--Jeez when he went with Orr(good clean fun)he got one in on Orr's button, that made My plate fly out!!--Naslund had guts to hold the puck for as long as he did, on what seemed to be a wide open net!!!--I would have shot it three times ,before he made his move!!--Do you think Rozi is playing better because of Staal???Do you think a young kid can settle him down--loosen him up??--They took a late punch, but got up and answered---The King is like a Fathead in shoot outs--he never flinches-its like he's stuck to the wall..Then they go to Sunrise and suck!!!They give one up late again, but it wasn't the same--they didn't play a strong game this night--they played to loose all night long --they are too good a team to have to play that type of game.--Thank Christ for the King and his shoot out skills---Do you suppose Redden keeps his skates on a heater when he is on the bench??--Because last night it seemed as though he edges were melted into the ice!!!Did you see him just STANDING and get turned around at the blue line to set up th 2-on-1 with 49 secs to go???--6 million!!!--To many giveaways--give up too many shots--Way to many short handed situations--All this a night after a good game against a better team in Tampa--Orr played a good game when he was on the ice --set up Voros with hard work---Did you notice the pass Dubi made on Zherdev's goal--Board to board cross ice -some how got by four Panthers sticks!!!O.K-be happy it clicked and they scored--but come on you don't make a pass like that--it's not the right play, but it worked--Like Brett Farve throwing into triple coverage and its a TD--next time it a Int.--Well I guess I'm nit picking again--but I'm right--Hey if it's O.K with Renney and the staff, then it's O.K with me--But I doubt if it's O.K with them!!!By the way we can't let up the Pens PP sucks right now and Satan came back to earth, but they still score a ton--and NJ Wins 5 straight without Fatso and score 23 goalsin those five wins!!! The highs and lows of being a Rangers fan!!

mr.hockey: Mr.Hockey, I am devastated over this latest tragedy. We had just found each other in the last year after 20 years. Things were going great and I was extremely happy Bob was back in my life.

Bob was and always will be my good friend. My heart is heavy for me, my wife and especially his wife Diane. It totally sucks!

As for the Rangers I was not able to see the Tampa game. I took everyone's opinion and I'll leave it at that.

The Florida game left me with an unsatisfied feeling. I really thought the Rangers were going to blow out the Panthers with 2 quick goals.

However it's the Ranger's were talking about and they sat on it big time. If not for Lundqvist's unreal work on the 5 on 3 Penalty Kill, the Rangers could easily blown this one.

Not impressed at all with Redden's play with less than 2 minutes to go. What is he thinking? Not impressed with sitting on it like a football team would, and PLEASE! will someone? anyone? shoot the F---ING! puck on the PP.

Hi Chris, I'm so sorry to hear about this terrible news. All my sympathy. Life is just unfair. I don't know what to say. We lost a friend from cancer not so long ago on a hockey forum, a 20 years old kid, that was tragic, too young to die. My thoughts are with you in these difficult moments, if you need anything... Take care.

Don't think so that will make things happier, but just to let you know I wrote my first article on the Rangers in a well-known hockey magazine here in France. That's it, I'm officially a hockey writer (well some sort of...). I have been offered the opportunity, I didn't thought too much and jumped on it! Well, I don't know if there will another article but who knows, if the team keeps to play well.

Really nice games in Florida, tough ones, good we brought 4 points. We may need them later. I'm waiting today's game with impatience, and at a decent time, 7PM here, for once... I liked the way Rozsi played in the last 2. I strongly hope he's back for good, or at least for a couple of games more. We need him badly.

I have just a little problem with these SO wins. that's a good thing we are on a 6-1 record, but I can't stop thinking there won't be SO in plays-offs.

See you around.

jeff: Jeff, I've had a bad finish to the year 2008 so far. First my dad passes away, now one of my best friends. Life does suck at this moment.

Congratulations on becoming a writer/columnist. It's nice to be recognized. Your passion for the game Hockey has been rewarded and you should be proud.

The Rangers are a major concern. To me, they are not built to win in a best of 7. That is my honest opinion. Things have to change in order for them to compete for the Cup!
