Rangers in the Drivers Seat

Sunday, April 4, 2010

After conquering the state of Florida (5-0 over Tampa, 4-1 over Florida), the New York Rangers have to be feeling very good amongst themselves. They did exactly what was needed and received some of the help that we knew was coming from the teams ahead of them (Although they got no help today from Detroit in Philly! Nice job, Dets!).

The Blueshirts are sitting in the drivers seat, but they are not as comfortable as they would like to be. Never the less, they are in control of their own fate. A tough game in Buffalo on Tuesday is next up on the Rangers list. It will not be easy. The game will pit against each other two of the best goaltenders in the world in a high profile game. The Rangers have to live in the moment and not get too far ahead of themselves. Trust me, they absolutely cannot look forward to the showdown with the Flyers just yet. They have to take care of the business at hand first. Nothing more, nothing less.

A few tidbits and thoughts… how good has Lundqvist been for the Rangers? Outside of the soft goal he gave up in Toronto, his play has been what you would expect out of the King! Let’s hope that he continues to play well and leads this team into the playoffs. What about Jody Shelley, Brandon Prust, and Aaron Voros’ contributions lately? How good and clutch have they been? Also, if Chris Drury’s tying goal in New Jersey was the biggest goal of the season- where do we put Marc Staal’s goal against Florida? In my book, that was as big as any for the Rangers this year. No doubt! Over and out!

they might be in the drivers seat, but its like watching a car driving all over the road.they started the day tied for the 8th spot and ended it 2 points out.the season started exciting and its ending the wame way.its nice to see some of the less likelys contributing down the stretch, shelly.prust, and its good to see staal stepping up as of late...and lundquist is as solid as they come in the nhl...so one game, one period,1 shift at a time... its getting good.

greg m, The Rangers have put themselves in contention with some inspired Hockey. They do still control the outcome of their playoff dreams.

It is nice to see some of the so called lesser publicized players get their just rewards. Shelley, Prust, Voros have been soldiers down the stretch. Staal And Lundqvist have played like the team leaders that they should be.

Off to Buffalo they go and the Rangers must stay in the moment, nothing else matters.

The mini-turn around that the Rangers have had is due mostly to the fact of the physical play of the players mentioned. For once, teams have to fear going into the corners. It's refreshing to see how the team has went from soft to relatively physical since the trade deadline.

The Rangers have to keep winning... unfortunately your favorite DETROIT couldn't get the job done yesterday. Figures Osgood had to make his first start in the last 25 games!

Hope we can pull it out in Buffalo. We won there before this year. Also, no Kaleta this time to my knowledge.

Hello Chris,
well this team is playing very well and again they have exceeded my expectations for this year. I had them pegged for a lottery pick with this a valuable year for experience for some of the younger players...the pieces dont seem to be out of reach..a scoring power forward and a hard hitting defenseman..the additions of Prust and Shelley have been a delight..Eriksson doesnt seem that bad a D-man..whats his story..Roszival seems to have stepped up ..if only he would shoot the puck more..Redden has been steadier..wow..this team can be very dangerous in the playoffs if we keep the ATTITUDE and play as a team.

Oli Joikinen..end of the year..keep or let go?..he seems to have a chemistry with Parenteau and Prospal..thats been a good line..

Who makes the team next year? Stephan? McDonough?

What free agents are we gonna target? Marleau, Wheeler Shane O'Brien and Volchenkov?

what trades are on the works? (Penner & Souray) from the Oilers

as usual interesting times for us Ranger fans who live in the blue and die in the red and create a new canvas in white each year ..haha as we move forward in life with our favirote team

Wrath, Having players like Shelley and Prust(Voros as well)keep the opposition's defense men honest.

Trust as a former player you are well aware where they are at all times. It's a huge plus for the Rangers to have these type of players on their team.

Rangers have to take care of their own business and not worry if a team like Euro-Wings can't handle Philly LOL.

Gotta win in Buf...Kaleta or no Kaleta.

Leatherneck, It's been a wild ride this season and it's not over yet. The team itself has found something towards the end that has them in a nice groove at this moment. Is enough? We'll soon find out.

Shelley, Prust and Voros give this team some backbone that you and I have talking about for a couple of years. Very nice to see...Finally.

What happens in the future can wait. Although you do bring up some excellent questions let's see what happens the rest of this year and go from there.

I do like your blue, red and white finishing comment, almost like a poet LOL.

Kotsy: regarding Shelley, Prust, etc.....you think Slats heard our barking? they can't win it by themsleves, but you can't win it without them. Wrath has it right. Now if we could just get that clear out d-man in the offseason.....

RJC, Regarding Shelley Prust etc... I think the message was loud and clear. It was far too obvious. Now let's see what we can do about that clear out d-man or two? LOL.

Wally, For all the marbles in the world. Rangers have to win on Friday to make Sunday Matter. I think they will LOL.

Well only had to watch the first period as the Flyers only win 20% of the games they trail after one. I guess it was pretty crazy in the Garden last night, GOOD THING I didn't make the trip!!! Doesn't matter which team makes it as the end result is OV & the CAPS, 4-0.Talk to you on Sunday.
